S&H Green Stamps were a popular form of trading stamps used in the United States from the late 1890s through the late 1980s. The founding company, Sperry and Hutchinson (S&H), issued stamps to retail organizations for a fee. These green stamps were given out to customers when they purchased goods and the stamps could be redeemed for additional merchandise via the S&H catalog or at one of their many S&H store locations throughout the US. Customers were given a particular number of stamps based on the dollar amount of their purchase.
Founded in 1896 by Thomas Sperry and Shelly Hutchinson, the yearly catalogs printed by the company were one the largest publications in the US at one time. Customers would receive their green stamps at the checkout counter of supermarkets, department stores, gas stations, five and dimes, pharmacies and many other stores throughout the country. The stamps could then be redeemed for merchandise. Today S&H Green Stamps operates as S&H Solutions and offers S&H Green Points, a digital version of Green Stamps.
This is just one of over fifty catalogs within our collection that we are offering in our educational series to benefit both the researcher, the collector, and anyone interested in our American heritage. This catalog is heavily illustrated with color images from the original catalog.
